Mike Lee is a proud North Omaha native and a lifelong advocate for justice, equity, and opportunity. With a deep commitment to the community that raised him, Mike has built a career rooted in political organizing, public service, and impactful leadership.
Mike graduated from Western Colorado University in 2020 with a degree in Political Science and a minor in International Relations. His education, combined with his lived experiences, laid the foundation for a career focused on creating meaningful change. As the founder and owner of Iola and Associates Political Consulting, Mike has provided strategic leadership for local campaigns, helping candidates and organizations amplify their impact and connect with voters.
Policy Work and Advocacy
As a legislative staffer for State Senator Terrell McKinney, Mike worked on transformative policies aimed at addressing systemic inequities and strengthening justice in Nebraska. He was instrumental in crafting LB1024, the North and South Omaha Recovery Act, under the leadership of Sen. McKinney and Sen. Justin Wayne, which secured critical investments for Omaha’s underserved neighborhoods.
Mike also contributed to advancing the Hair Discrimination Act, which protects individuals from discrimination based on natural hairstyle with the leadership of Sen. McKinney and Now Senator Ashlei Spivey, and played a significant role in supporting LB255, the Giglio-Brady transparency bill. This legislation requires Nebraska law enforcement agencies to maintain and disclose lists of officers with credibility issues, ensuring fair trials and rebuilding trust in the justice system.
Community Leadership
As Chair of the Nebraska Democratic Black Caucus, Mike has focused on strengthening the organization’s infrastructure, increasing membership, and fostering civic engagement. His leadership emphasizes collaboration and sustainability, ensuring the Caucus continues to serve as a vital platform for progress and empowerment.
